Ivy Green — Your Dirt Diva

Let me be honest with you for a second. Container gardening has a reputation for being the “easy” option — and it is easier in some ways, but it also has its own very specific ways of going wrong. Wrong pot size. Wrong mix. Watering like you’re growing in the ground when you are absolutely not. These ten tools exist because Kevin and I got tired of watching people make the same fixable mistakes. Get them, use them, grow something epic. Starting with the Container Size Cheat Sheet — seriously, grab that one first. You’re welcome in advance. 🪴

What You’ll Get

Ten Tools Built for Container Gardeners Who Mean Business

No fluff, no filler. Every single one of these was built to answer a specific question the book walks you through — so you always have something actionable in your hand.

🫙Container Size Cheat Sheet
What’s InsideA crop-by-crop reference showing exactly what size container each vegetable, herb, and fruit needs to thrive. No more standing in the garden center aisle squinting at a tomato and guessing. (Spoiler: that 5-gallon bucket you’re eyeing? Probably not big enough.)
✅Container Starter Kit Checklist
What’s InsideEverything you need for your first season, organized by category with budget-friendly alternatives. Print it, take it shopping, never wonder what you’re missing again.
💧Watering & Feeding Tracker
What’s InsideA daily log for the Finger Test and a complete fertilizer reference guide organized by crop type. This single habit separates the thriving gardens from the struggling ones.
🐛Pest & Disease Pocket Guide
What’s InsideA symptom-first reference for the most common container garden problems, what causes them, and how to handle them organically — starting gentle, escalating only if the little monsters force your hand.
📅90-Day First Garden Plan
What’s InsideA week-by-week guide for your first season, with milestone markers, common problem callouts, and space for your own notes. Takes the guesswork out of “what am I even supposed to be doing right now?”
🧪Perfect Potting Mix Recipe Cards
What’s InsideFive proven DIY mix formulas for different crops and conditions — an all-purpose mix, a moisture-retentive mix for greens, a fast-draining mix for Mediterranean herbs, and an acid mix for berries. Cut them apart, pin them up, mix with confidence.
🥬Vegetable Quick-Start Cards
What’s InsideIndividual reference cards for ten of the best container vegetables — container size, sun, water, feeding, harvest time, and Ivy’s personal best tip for each. Everything you need, one page per plant.
🗓️Succession Planting Planner
What’s InsideA month-by-month sowing calendar so you’re harvesting something every week from spring through fall, rather than drowning in lettuce for two weeks and then having nothing.
🌡️Season Extension Guide by Zone
What’s InsideUSDA zone-by-zone planting dates, frost information, best crops, and tool recommendations for pushing your season weeks longer at both ends.
🌸Companion Planting Chart
What’s InsideWho plays well together, who to keep apart, and the ready-to-plant container combinations that actually work — with the science on what matters versus what’s just gardening folklore passed down by people who were probably wrong.

Kevin Mansoor · Certified Nursery Professional

Container gardens are significantly more vulnerable to inconsistent watering than in-ground beds, and this is the single most common cause of crop failure in container gardening. Unlike soil in a garden bed, which has volume and mass to buffer moisture fluctuations, a container can go from adequately moist to critically dry within 24 hours in warm conditions — and from moist to waterlogged just as quickly with overwatering. Both extremes cause irreversible root stress. The Watering and Feeding Tracker was built around the Finger Test protocol — a simple but reliable method for assessing moisture at root depth rather than at the surface — combined with a crop-specific fertilizer schedule, because containers also leach nutrients far faster than garden beds and require a more structured feeding approach.

☀️ Ivy’s Translation
In other words — containers dry out fast, flood fast, and get hungry fast. Your garden bed has some wiggle room. Your pots do not. The Watering and Feeding Tracker is how you stop playing guessing games with your finger in the dirt and start actually knowing what your plants need. Kevin built it around real nursery protocol. I made sure you’d actually want to use it. That’s the deal we have.
