Shovel: A tool with a broad blade and a handle, used for digging or moving loose material.
A shovel is one of the most basic and versatile tools in a gardener’s shed. You’ll use it for everything from digging holes for planting to turning compost and moving soil, mulch, or other materials around your yard. Shovels come in various sizes and shapes, so it’s helpful to have a couple of different ones on hand.
For general gardening tasks, a round-point shovel is a good choice. It has a pointed blade that’s useful for digging into the earth. A square-point shovel, with its flat blade, is better for moving loose materials like mulch or gravel. When choosing a shovel, consider the size and weight – you want something that’s comfortable for you to use. Also, look for a sturdy handle that will hold up to regular use.
