Nutrition: The process of plants obtaining and utilizing essential elements for growth and development.
Plant nutrition is about how plants get the “food” they need to thrive. Like us, plants require a balanced diet of essential elements to grow strong and healthy. These elements, called nutrients, are absorbed from the soil through the plant’s roots. Some nutrients are needed in larger quantities and are called macronutrients, while others are required in smaller amounts and are called micronutrients.
Good plant nutrition is key to a successful garden. When plants get the right nutrients, they’re better able to resist diseases and pests and produce abundant foliage, flowers, and fruits. Providing your plants with the proper nutrition might involve adding fertilizers, amending the soil with compost or other organic matter, or adjusting the soil’s pH.
