Nitrogen: An essential macronutrient for plant growth, crucial for chlorophyll production and overall development.
Nitrogen is one of the most important nutrients for your garden plants. Think of it as a building block essential for healthy growth. It’s a key component of chlorophyll, the green pigment that allows plants to capture sunlight for photosynthesis. Without enough nitrogen, plants can’t produce the energy they need to thrive.
Nitrogen deficiency often shows up as yellowing leaves, especially older ones. This is because the plant moves nitrogen from older leaves to newer growth. Nitrogen is mobile in the plant so that it will prioritize new growth. Adding nitrogen to your garden can be done in several ways, including using fertilizers, adding compost or manure, or planting cover crops.
