Mosaic: A plant disease characterized by a mottled or patterned discoloration of leaves, often caused by a virus.
Mosaic disease is a common viral infection that can affect many plants. It gets its name from the characteristic pattern of light and dark patches that appear on the leaves, resembling a mosaic tile design. These patches can be yellow, white, or even a different shade of green than the rest of the leaf.
Unfortunately, there’s no cure for mosaic virus. Once a plant is infected, it’s infected for life. The best way to manage mosaic virus is to prevent it in the first place. This includes using disease-free seeds and transplants, controlling insect pests that can spread the virus, and removing infected plants to prevent it from spreading to others. Some plants are more resistant to mosaic virus than others, so choosing resistant varieties can also help.
