Micropropagation: A technique for rapidly multiplying plants using tissue culture.
Micropropagation is like having a plant cloning machine! It’s a method used to grow many identical plants from a single parent plant using small pieces of tissue, like cells or cuttings, in a sterile lab environment. This process is also known as tissue culture.3
This technique is really useful for quickly producing a large number of plants with desirable traits, like disease resistance or specific flower colors. It’s also helpful for propagating plants that are difficult to grow from seeds or cuttings. While it’s usually done in a lab, the basic idea is to provide the plant tissue with the right nutrients and conditions to encourage it to grow into a whole new plant.
