Media: In gardening, media refers to the material used to grow plants, such as soil, compost, or soilless mixes.
When you start seeds or grow plants in containers, the “media” is what you’re planting them in. It’s like their home! While soil is a common type of media, it’s not the only one. Gardeners often use other materials like compost, which is decomposed organic matter, or soilless mixes made from peat moss, coconut coir, or perlite.
The right media is important for healthy plant growth. It needs to support the roots, hold moisture, and allow air circulation. Different plants have different needs, so some might prefer a lighter, fluffier media, while others might do better in something denser. Think of it like choosing the right bed for yourself – some people like a soft mattress, while others prefer something firm!
