Electrostatic: Relating to stationary electric charges.
In-home gardening, electrostatic charges can sometimes play a surprising role. For example, some gardeners believe that gently brushing certain plant leaves with a soft, slightly charged material can help dislodge dust and even deter some pests. The idea is that the slight static charge attracts and removes these unwanted particles.
While the science behind this isn’t fully established, some gardeners swear by it, especially for delicate plants that don’t tolerate being wiped down with a cloth. Just be careful not to create a charge that is too strong, as that could potentially harm the plant. Think gentle static, like what you get from rubbing a balloon on your hair, rather than a full-on electric shock!
