Dry: A condition in which the soil lacks adequate moisture for healthy plant growth.
Think of dry soil as thirsty soil. Just like we need water to survive, so do plants. Plants can’t take up the moisture they need to function properly when the soil becomes too dry. Their leaves might wilt, growth can be stunted, and in severe cases, they may even die.
In your home garden, monitoring the soil moisture and providing water when needed is crucial. You can check the soil moisture by sticking your finger a couple of inches into the ground. If it feels dry to the touch, it’s time to water. The amount of water needed will depend on the type of plant, the weather conditions, and the soil type. Providing consistent moisture, especially during hot, dry periods, is essential for healthy plant growth. Mulching around plants can help to conserve soil moisture and reduce the need for frequent watering.
