Bulbous: Having or resembling a bulb.
In gardening, “bulbous” describes plants that grow from bulbs—fleshy, underground storage structures. These plants are often admired for their beautiful flowers, which emerge from the bulb’s stored energy. Think of tulips, daffodils, hyacinths, and lilies—all classic bulbous plants.
Bulbous plants are popular with gardeners because they’re relatively easy to grow. The bulb contains everything the plant needs to start, so you must plant it in the ground and wait for it to sprout. Bulbous plants add a burst of color and fragrance to the garden, and many varieties come back year after year, providing a reliable display of blooms.
