Armored: Protected by a tough outer covering.
In a gardening context, “armored” usually refers to plants that have some kind of tough, protective exterior. This might be thorns, spines, thick leaves, or a tough rind. These features help protect the plant from animals that might want to eat it, as well as harsh weather conditions.
Think of cacti with their sharp spines, or holly bushes with their prickly leaves. Pumpkins and watermelons have a thick, armored rind that protects the fruit inside. These adaptations are nature’s way of giving plants a defense mechanism. While they might make the plant a little harder to handle, they also contribute to its survival.
